Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about wedding and elopement photography.

Every wedding is different, and it’s natural to have questions about how the day will be photographed, what’s included and what to expect before, during and after.

Below are some of the questions I’m asked most often.

Working style

  • Yes. I offer both colour and black and white images as standard, but I can also provide options. As one example, customers can choose a black and white package and add specific images in colour.

Black and white suits my documentary style, but colour images can add to the story or atmosphere of the moment too. It comes down to your preference and what you think of my style.

  • Very rarely - but I’m happy to discuss this with you to find out what you want.

My approach is observational and quiet. I’ll guide you briefly for portraits when needed, but the rest of the day unfolds naturally without direction.

  • I don’t promise a minimum or maximum number because the final output can differ from occasion to occasion.

I place far more importance on the quality of the images than on volume. This means being active all day and looking for opportunities that work.

Most couples don’t want, say, 10 images of a particular time in the day that look almost the same, so sometimes less really is more!

As a broad guide, for a full-day shoot, I could produce between 350 to 500 edited images.

I don’t cap the number; you receive everything that contributes meaningfully to the story of your day.

Before the day

  • Yes, if not in person, then a short video call is usually the best start and to talk through your plans and see if my approach is the right fit.

You can book through the Contact page.

  • If practical, yes. If not, I’ll research locations and plan lighting and timing around the specifics of your day. I’ll listen to any specifics you are looking to achieve.

On the day

  • The weather is part of the story. I work with whatever conditions we have - snow, wind or sun. Some of the strongest images come from unpredictable light.

  • A second photographer is available as an optional add-on. It’s helpful for larger weddings or when simultaneous coverage is needed - such as morning preparations in different locations.

  • It is up to you. Packages vary, but I’m flexible.

Sometimes, the most memorable images come from the late-night celebrations, and you don’t want to miss those!

After the day

  • Please let me know how quickly you want these.

Unless agreed otherwise, final galleries are typically delivered within four weeks.

We may be able to offer a quicker delivery service, depending on current commitments - please ask!

  • You’ll receive a private online gallery for viewing, downloading and sharing.

All images, both colour and black and white, are provided in two file formats, high resolution for self-printing and low resolution for digital / social media.

  • Yes. I offer a range of fine-art albums, framed prints and loose archival prints. These can be added after you’ve seen your final gallery.

Travel & Logistics

  • Yes, I work across Scotland, the UK and abroad.

For each enquiry, you’ll usually fine-tune the details, and then I’ll confirm everything clearly before booking.

  • Yes. I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance, and I can provide certificates if your venue requires them.

  • This has never happened, but I have a network of experienced photographers who can step in at short notice. Your agreement includes full details about what happens in this situation.

Booking & Payment

  • Not immediately. Usually, a couple will want to chat with me first and then between themselves in private to make sure they are happy before going ahead.

At that point, I will pencil in their date into my diary for up to seven days, which is usually plenty of time to make a decision.

A booking fee of £400 is required to secure your date, with the remaining balance due one month (30 days) before the wedding.

  • Yes. If your date changes, within the same calendar year, your booking moves with you.

If I’m not available on your revised date, I’ll endeavour to find a suitable alternative photographer from my network.
